About Naomi (she/they)
Social Locations & Context
I am a gender-fluid woman, mother, in my 4th decade of life, and much more. I have lived experience with some of the areas I now specialize in as a therapist. My ancestry is predominantly Scandinavian and Gaelic, along with traces from other regions and cultures of northern, western and eastern Europe. I am engaged and evolving with the continual process of deconstructing white supremacy within myself and in my relations. I value being in relationship with plants, animals and ecologies; gardening; preparing and sharing foods with community; dancing and moving my body; being with family, friends and lovers; swimming in natural waters; participating in community service and activism; singing in song circles and with a local street choir; and creative expression through various art forms such as creative writing and photography.
I was born, raised, and currently reside in the region known as the Pacific Northwest, in a blended family with multiple siblings, on the ancestral homelands of a diverse array of indigenous peoples including the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Chinook, Kalapuya, Molalla, Atfalati, Wasco, Wishram, Yakama, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla, Stl'pulmsh, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Portland, Oregon presently has the 9th largest Urban Native American population in the U.S. with over 380 federally recognized Tribes in the Urban Portland Metropolitan area. The systemic policies of genocide, displacement, and assimilation continue to impact many Indigenous families and peoples today. It is important to be aware that colonialism and imperialism are historical as well as current and ongoing processes. I strive to be and act in solidarity with local and global movements for collective liberation. I approach therapy as a channel for the interpersonal and ancestral work that supports and facilitates macro-level change.
